DOMINICA
Arienne Perryman
I have recently completed an internship in the Republic of
Panama in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, finalizing my degree;
M.S in International Affairs with a concentration in Urban
and Regional Planning. During the four month program,
I was able ti immerse myself in Spanish, as well as gain invaluable
knowledge of a governmental institution and the structure
politics of multilateral and bilateral relations of Latin
America and the Caribbean. Thus far, I have assisted in bilateral
trade agreement meetings between Panama and various
countries. As well, I have had the opportunity to attend a
number of conferences regarding strengthening the economics
ties between Panama and Western countries such as Canada
and the United States. One of my primary responsibilities
was researching and formatting country portfolios and
profiles for the use of traveling officials and ministers
in overseas missions.

GUADELOUPE

Caroline Rinaldi
Caroline Rinaldi, ECCN Guadeloupe Island Coordinator,
began her investigations in the marine world as a volunteer
for World Wildlife Fund studying leatherback turtles in French
Guyana. Based in Guadeloupe since 1989, she and her
husband created Association Evasion Tropicale (AET—a NGO)
in 1992. Based in Bouillante Guadeloupe (French West Indies,
AET’s goal is the conservation of marine mammals and turtles
through educational training and dedicated research.
Species studied include sperm and humpback whales and smaller
cetacean species. AET’s research focuses on cetacean distribution,
association between individuals, strandings, and the impact
of boats on populations as well as providing whalewatching
expertise. AET is involved in the French Antilles’ Caribbean
Whale Sanctuary project, UNEP’s Marine Mammal
Action Plan, CARIBwhale, and the French and inter-regional
strandings network. Caroline Rinaldi is particularly involved
in regional and international conservation programs.

ST. LUCIA

Caroline Aimable
Founded in 1980, Mystic Man Tours provides a variety of water
based tours in the south of St Lucia. Tours include Whale
& Dolphin Watching, Sport Fishing, Glass Bottom Boat Tours,
Snorkeling and Sailing. With a fleet of six vessels and seventeen
staff members, the company is well equipped to offer quality
services to locals and visitors.
Caroline joined the team in 1997 after serving on the board
of the Soufriere Water Taxi Association for three years. Her
main duty is office manager, but she jumps at any opportunity
to be on the water. “When I am on the ocean, the world is
almost perfect.” She says. Lately she has been working very
closely with infant and primary school students, trying to
create an interest and appreciation for the marine environment.
This year, 783 students visited the marine reserve on the
glass bottom boat as part of their end of term activity. These
students were also very eager to learn about the whales and
dolphins that are resident to, and migrate through the waters
of St. Lucia.
